When I was a child, when I knew my grandpa couldn't see me, I used to climb up a chair to take one of his Sunday hats, one of his Borsalinos, try them on and watch myself in the mirror.
Once I got the chance, instead of stealing hats from my grandpa, I started buying and wearing them with several outfits.
Many people think they don't look good, while actually, it is only a matter of finding the right one that matches your face and personal style, a bit like when buying a perfume or sunglasses.
Everyone has to find his own hat. For those with a rather small face like mine I suggest narrow-brimmed hats, while - for people with a round face shape and curly hair - a wider and not too small brim hat is more suitable. A hat is that particular accessory that can brush up even a very simplistic look, like jeans and T-shirt. I always go on holidays with a white shirt, shorts and my white Panama, partly because it doesn't fit into my suitcase, partly because it has become a true ritual.
In spring there is a noticeable trend of coloured hats that can be combined with the rest of the outfit and coordinated with the other colours worn, also with accessories like handbag or shoes.
In one of my last outfits, I have combined a classic model of a Borsalino made of squared blue cotton to an elegant yellow plissé suit with a blue floral design and a denim jacket. In my opinion, it is a harmonious combination, thanks to my Borsalino that gives personality and character to n every-day-look.
